The magic of Christmas in the Czech Republic

Hot chocolate, gingerbread cookies, colorful lights, and decorations can only mean one thing… Christmas is coming!
Visiting the Czech Republic in December will definitely be an unforgettable experience, as the spirit of Christmas can be felt in the air! If you come to Prague and Brno during that time, for your fertility treatment, snow is almost guaranteed, and is there really anything more magical than that?
Actually, yes! The only thing more exciting than that would be to spend next Christmas at the comfort of your home, with a newborn in your arms!
Don’t worry, we have plenty of ideas to share with you as to how you can enjoy your trip to Prague or Brno to the fullest! During the entire holiday season, these two cities are filled with such a charming atmosphere that you’ll surely have a great time!
Starting with Prague, the Christmas markets at the Old Town Square and at Wenceslas Square are an absolute must! You can find them in the heart of the city, and they open as early as late November, up until the 6th of January. Another famous Christmas market can be found in front of St. George’s Basilica, right next to Prague’s Castle. Expect to find all kinds of traditional local Christmas treats, such as trdelník, and decorations for your home, as well as souvenirs and gifts for your loved ones!
If you’re lucky, you could perhaps also see beautiful swans swimming down the Vltava River, on your way from the Old Town Square to Prague’s Castle. The city’s Christmas tree, decorated in red and gold, is another impressive sight at the Old Town Square.
Prague won’t disappoint those of you who love art, with so many classical, opera, and ballet concerts to choose from. Performances are held in some of the city’s most spectacular historic venues, and they usually sell out fast, so if you’re interested in watching “The Nutcracker” ballet show, keep that in mind!
Christmastime in Brno, on the other hand, is a bit more on the quieter side, but it is impressive nonetheless! It makes sense that Mozart once spent Christmas there! In Brno’s Old Town, you can find Christmas markets on both the Freedom Square, and the Dominican Square, where you can find different Moravian food specialties, as well as a wide selection of souvenirs, decorations, and other Christmas goodies. The Dominican Square is also particularly famous for the life-size carved wooden re-creation of the Nativity scene, with the Holy Family, Three Wise Men, angels, and animals.
For those of you who love ice skating, Brno offers an amazing open-air ice rink, right next to St. Thomas’ Church. And don’t be fooled, Brno has its own castle too! Last year, the highest Christmas tree in the entire city was lit up in the corner tower of the castle! Another Christmas attraction is the 33m high Ferris wheel, which offers a magnificent view over the city’s center!
At Unica, we believe that exploring Prague and Brno, especially during this magical time, will help you relax on your days leading up to your fertility treatment, or even after that. Both cities have much to offer, and the spirit of the holidays felt there will definitely help you feel more hopeful and happier!
