Fertility in the Czech Republic at a Historic Low: What Role Does Age Play and What Can We Do About It?

The Czech Republic is facing a significant demographic decline. According to available data, only 77,000 children were born in 2025, marking the lowest number in history.

This trend is neither accidental nor short-term; the number of births has been declining for several years, increasingly raising the question of why this is happening.

There are, of course, multiple reasons: from economic uncertainty to lifestyle changes and the postponement of parenthood. The latter factor, however, plays a crucial role from a medical perspective.

Age as a Key Factor in Fertility

Today, it is entirely common for women to plan their first child after the age of thirty. The average age of women at childbirth in 2025 increased to 30.6 years.

From a biological standpoint, however, one thing remains unchanged: a woman's fertility is closely linked to age. As women age, not only does the number of eggs decrease, but their quality also declines. This decline becomes more significant after the age of 35, when conception may become more difficult, and the risk of complications increases.

How Modern Medicine Can Help

Reproductive medicine today offers options that can help even in situations where natural conception is not easy. The IVF (in vitro fertilization) method provides a chance to overcome various obstacles on the path to parenthood.

However, it is important to note that even the success of IVF is influenced to some extent by a woman's age and egg quality. This is why timely intervention in fertility issues plays a key role.

Thinking About the Future in Time

As parenthood is increasingly postponed to older ages, the importance of prevention grows. More and more women are interested in preserving the ability to have their own children in the future.

One of the options we offer at our clinics is social freezing, or egg freezing. This method allows women to preserve eggs when they are still of good quality and use them later when their quality declines. For many women, it provides a way to gain more certainty and freedom in planning their lives.

The First Step? Learn More About Your Fertility

If you're thinking about your fertility, the most important thing is to start with information. Understanding your current fertility status can be crucial in making future decisions.

At our clinics, we offer a free fertility check: an ovarian reserve test using the AMH test for women and a sperm analysis for men. These basic tests can help identify potential risks and give you a clearer picture of your options.

The Future Is in Your Hands

The decline in birth rates is a topic that affects society as a whole. However, it is also a very personal matter.

It is important to have sufficient information, understand your body, and know what options are available today. Whatever decision you make, timely awareness can provide you with greater certainty, peace of mind, and control over your future.
