Infertility is more than a medical diagnosis. It is a deeply personal experience that often brings uncertainty, difficult decisions and emotional challenges. As reproductive medicine continues to advance, patients need more than access to treatment: they need reliable information, realistic expectations and compassionate support throughout their journey.

With this in mind, the 2nd IVF Forum Slovenia took place on 4th of October 2026 at Terme Dobrna, Slovenia, bringing together healthcare professionals and people affected by infertility for a day of education, expert discussion and open dialogue.

The event was organized by Maja Henigman, our ambassador - a registered nurse and IVF coordinator. Unica Clinic proudly joined the initiative as a co-organizer and sponsor, supporting its mission to make evidence-based fertility information more accessible and strengthen communication between healthcare professionals and patients.

Bringing Expert Knowledge Closer to Patients

The forum addressed several important areas of reproductive medicine, reflecting the questions and challenges patients face throughout fertility treatment.

Discussions covered genetics and genetic testing in IVF, including the possibilities and limitations of current technologies; male infertility, with a focus on diagnostics and treatment options; and pregnancy after the age of 40, exploring realistic expectations, genetic considerations and the scientific evidence behind additional IVF procedures.

The programme also highlighted the importance of psychological support during fertility treatment, recognizing the emotional impact of infertility, unsuccessful treatment cycles and pregnancy loss on individuals and couples.

Across all sessions, a common message emerged: patients deserve clear, balanced information that helps them understand their options and make informed decisions in collaboration with their healthcare professionals.

Evidence-Based Care, Realistic Expectations and Individualized Treatment

Modern reproductive medicine offers an expanding range of diagnostic tools and treatment options. However, not every available test or intervention is appropriate for every patient, and no procedure can guarantee a successful outcome.

Responsible fertility care means explaining both the potential benefits and the limitations of available approaches. It also requires recognising that every patient's medical circumstances, treatment history and personal priorities are different.

The IVF Forum Slovenia provided a space to address these issues openly, encouraging critical discussion and helping patients better understand the scientific evidence behind fertility treatment.

A Comprehensive Approach to Fertility Care

Infertility often requires a multidisciplinary approach involving reproductive medicine specialists, embryologists, geneticists, andrologists and mental health professionals. Equally important is ensuring that patients feel informed, heard and supported throughout the process.

Initiatives such as the IVF Forum Slovenia help bridge the gap between complex medical knowledge and the practical questions patients encounter in everyday life. They also create opportunities for professionals to exchange perspectives and explore how fertility care can continue to evolve in response to patients' needs.

Through her work with patients seeking fertility treatment abroad, Maja Henigman has seen how important accessible information, personal guidance and ongoing support can be throughout what is often a demanding journey. The forum reflects her commitment to patient education and to fostering a more open, informed conversation about infertility.

Continuing the Conversation

The 2nd IVF Forum Slovenia marked another step towards making reliable fertility information more accessible and encouraging meaningful conversations about the challenges of infertility. Through collaboration between healthcare professionals and patient-focused initiatives, complex medical topics can become easier to understand, helping patients navigate their options with greater confidence.

Because better-informed patients are better equipped to make decisions — and no one should have to navigate the journey to parenthood without understanding their options.
