The birth rate in the Czech Republic is declining and the consequences are beginning to be seen beyond demography. According to the Czech Statistical Office, approximately 84,000 children were born in 2024, which is almost 30,000 less than in 2017. Experts warn that if the trend does not change, the low birth rate will soon have a significant impact on the whole society - from the labour market to the pension system.
In an article by Forbes magazine on the topic ‘The Silent Threat’, the director of the Unica Clinic, Ing. Adéla Minks Šašková, Ph.D., who highlighted the importance of early prevention and fertility preservation. ‘The field of assisted reproduction belongs to a very dynamically developing area of medicine,’ she said in the interview. And prevention through the social freezing method, i.e. egg freezing, is the way to preserve the chances of future parenthood, she said.
While this method was previously used mainly by cancer patients, today social freezing is also a common choice for personal reasons: for women who do not yet have a suitable partner, are focusing on their career or simply want more time. Thanks to the modern vitrification method, more than 95% of the cells remain unchanged in quality after thawing.
